Alan is the past executive editor of The Interpreter magazine and Legacy magazine of the National Association for Interpretation. Since 2002, he has conducted more than 150 interpretive writing workshops, Certified Interpretive Guide trainings and interpretive visitor services seminars across North America. Alan lives south of Glacier National Park in the Swan Valley of Montana.

Alan’s writing credits include more than 100 articles and editorials in interpretive magazines, as well as numerous texts for interpretive panels and brochures.

Alan earned a Ph.D. in environmental science education from Kansas State University, Manhattan.

During the last 30 years he has taught interpretation, environmental science and education courses at Humboldt State University, California, and at Miami University, Ohio.

He is an interpretive writer for state parks, visitor centers, byways, and museums across the United States.
